AVALON PARADEA

1. Has your muse or musings changed in isolation? My musing has become even *more* internalized than ever… not sure if Iʻm talking to myself too much or not?

2. What is your favorite week 7 ration? You can never each too many radishes.

3. Whatʻs your post apocalyptic pseudonym? Just call me Avalonius: Color Wizard and Plant Mage Extraordinaire. Thatʻs my real name, anyway.

4. What kind of music are you plugged into these days? Oh man, music? I range between bluegrass, ethereal futurepop, anime soundtracks, metal cello, slack key instrumentals…

5. Whatʻs the first Kona Biz youʻre looting? Akamai Art Supply hands down. Ironic, considering they told me about this call for entry.

6.  What would your homeless sign say? Not sure, maybe I should ask one of my many houseless/ previously houseless friends for advice on that?

7. What is going to be the title of your binge worthy Netflix biography? Netflix? Never heard of it.

8. What is your biggest non-essential guilty pleasure? Being able to bother my cat ALL. THE. TIME now that Iʻm always home.

9. Favorite local artist? Roen Hufford! She is my Kapa Queen.

10. Īn the future, people will be able to chose 2 lockdown locations. Where is your second    pied de terre? Waialea Beach because I MISS IT SO MUCH RIGHT NOW

11. How many rolls of toilet paper do you have left? Literally 4. Good thing Iʻm a kapa artist, those scraps are gonna come in handy biiig time next week.

12. When was the last time you had a Corona? Loooong time areddeh.

13. Any last words? I strongly recommend reading “The Plague” by Albert Camus during this time. Fun stuff!

Aloha! My name is Avalon Paradea, I work as an archaeologist and do art part-time. My focus in the arts revolves around ʻāina-based creativity. I am a haumāna of kapa and am passionate about using plant-based dyes and carefully collected earth pigments in my works. For the past year, I have been making watercolors with soils collected locally and during adventures abroad. Recently, I have started exploring my passion for making “journal comics,” using a comic format to explore personal inner thoughts. These are drawn with micron pens and then colored with my handmade paints.

The six paintings I have attached here were created during lockdown. None of them are for sale, and I feel that they all speak for themselves. Done with micron pen and painted with handmade, ʻāina-based paints.
